Background

Anointing with oil is an ancient practice. In Old Testament times, holy anointing oil was poured over the heads of prophets, priests and kings. Holy Anointing Oil was also used to anoint objects - including the sacred objects and vessels in the Tabernacle and in the Temple.

In the New Testament we read that the disciples of Jesus anointed the sick with oil. "And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them." (Mark 6:13) Later on in the New Testament we also read of the link between anointing with oil and healing. "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord." (James 5:14)

Many churches and Christians today pray for the sick, and some even accompany their prayers with the 'Laying-on of hands', yet fail to anoint with oil - despite the fact that the word of God plainly promises that if we do so, "the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven." (James 5:15)

Believers who have yet to discover anointing with oil may insist that "there is no power in the oil and so we do not need to use it." We do not believe however that God's Word supports this view. Rather, we recognise that the Lord clearly wants his church to anoint with oil in his name (James 5:14). This is God's way and not man's way, and his ways are always higher than ours. (Isaiah 55:9). As followers of Jesus, we need to be both well-informed and obedient in this matter. Remember this: "There has not failed one word of all his good promise." (1 Kings 8:56)

Although the practice of anointing with oil in Jesus' name has continued on in the church in one form or other for centuries, it is only in more recent times that it has become more widespread and commonplace. It is perhaps significant that this is happening right across denominational boundaries. It is our belief that in these days, God's Spirit is once again reminding his church of the importance of anointing with oil. It is because of this and in obedience to God's prompting, that we have produced this BIBLICAL ANOINTING OIL and have made it available to the body of Christ.
